Lockdown Extended In Many Cities Due To Covid-19

As Maharashtra and Gujarat saw a dramatic increase in coronavirus cases in the past few days the decision to impose and expand locks in other provincial states was taken after governments issued repeated warnings to the public in vain.

On Friday, Gujarat reported 460 new cases and Maharashtra registered 8,333 new coronavirus cases involving Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and Amravati with about 40 percent of cases.

In the cities of Amravati and Achalpur, the expansion was extended for a week due to the condition of the coronavirus, while over the weekend restrictions in Nagpur, Buldhana and Yavatmal. 

Near Achalpur, the town of Anjangaon Surji will also remain closed until 6 am on March 8.

Maharashtra Energy Minister Dr. Nitin Raut has warned that drastic measures will be taken if the increase in cases is not controlled. 

"Saving people's lives is our job and we are ready to start all the necessary steps," he told.

The overnight deadline in Gujarat has been extended

The Gujarat government has extended overnight arrivals to the four major cities of Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot for another 15 days, with the deadline set to expire on February 28.

The government led by Vijay Rupani has decided to extend the curfew by another two weeks due to an increase in coronavirus cases in the four municipal companies, an official statement said on Friday night.

This is the fifth extension of the overnight home arrival, which came into effect in November 2020 following an increase in COVID-19 cases after Diwali.

Madhya Pradesh is considering a lock in the wake of the COVID-19 lawsuit.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan warned residents that it may also be rescheduled for night time to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and urged people not to go to Maharashtra. 

His warning has sparked speculation about the possible re-closure due to the deadly disease COVID-19.

"I urge the people, if possible, to avoid visiting Maharashtra where the coronavirus is spreading rapidly, especially those living in border areas," Chouhan said in a speech to the country's people.

Chauhan advised workers to avoid going to the Maharashtra districts on the border of Madhya Pradesh in search of work.

The status of COVID-19 in a neighboring country and said they would get jobs under MGNREGA at their birthplaces.

Here is what is open and will remain closed in Maharashtra

At the time of the lock, only shops selling valuables will remain open. All other stores have been instructed to remain closed.

The closure has forced educational institutions, training classes, and training schools to remain closed until March 8.

Public spaces such as cinemas, gyms, swimming pools, parks have been ordered to remain closed and gatherings for entertainment, education, culture, religious purposes are not allowed in the region.

Meanwhile, India registered a one-day spike in more than 16,000 COVID-19 cases on the third day in a row on Saturday.

The death toll rose to 1,56,938 and 113 new deaths, according to a statement updated at 8 am on Saturday.
