There are more than 26.4 million downloads of Privacy-focused messaging applications named Signal from 4 January to 17 January, Signal and Telegram have been topping the charts in Google application stores and Apple since Whatsapp changed its Privacy Policies and term of service on 6th January 2021.
There is a jump of 160% from the previous period with the download of 9.1 million downloads between 4th to 17th January and also WhatsApp got 5 Million downloads in India in this period.
WhatsApp company recently said announced that users have to accept the privacy policies before the 8th of February and if a person didn’t do so then that person is not able to use WhatsApp, but recently the company announced that it would delay the new Update, which will lead to sharing of Data from Interactions between users and businesses, to May this year.
Indian Government has also written to WhatsApp on Tuesday, Government asked WhatsApp to withdraw the changes altogether. “Grave concerns regarding the implications for the choice and autonomy of Indian citizens”.
Also, the high court said on Monday that users had the choice of whether they want to use WhatsApp or Not. It is a voluntary thing. If they accept the Term of services then they use it otherwise use other related applications.
Many people thought that by update Whatsapp meant that it would share the Data from Private interactions with its Parent company Facebook, but WhatsApp said that only interactions with Businesses are affected by the change to its Policy.
